About Strathean
Strathean is a spiritual retreat centre based near Otaki (just under a 1 hour drive from Wellington), that is available for groups of all practices to hire and host retreats for up to 30 people. The atmosphere is peaceful and spiritually inviting. Tall native trees, spacious and comfortable bedrooms all contribute to the quiet and restful energy.
About Us
We are committed to sharing the wonderful energy Strathean Retreat Centre holds, and strive to offer beautiful experiences for all who visit. We see it as a a space for groups of all paths to enhance personal development and connection with Higher Self, Source, Spirit, Consciousnsess and God. We encourage groups wishing to develop their creativity too, such as writers and artists’ groups.
We see our roles as that of Guardians (Kaitiaki), looking after and enhancing the energy at Strathean, so that it will be available as a special place for future generations. So we are making our decisions with a view to the future, consideration for the present and gratitude for the past. We thank Paramhansa Yogananda for his guidance in our lives and in running Strathean.
Everyone who works for Strathean is doing so as a volunteer, giving their time as a service to others. All income from retreat hosting is re-invested back into Strathean Retreat Centre and it is our intention that this will continue. (This does not include caterers working for Strathean or retreat facilitators).
History
Strathean Retreat Centre has been used as a retreat centre for around fifty years. It was previously owned and cared for by the Wellington Study Group, who used it both for their own retreats and for hiring it to other groups for their use. Many of the trees have been planted in honour of members of the Wellington Study Group, as well as the Auntie Jean fern garden. We are privileged to take Strathean on the next step of its journey and to enhance the property that they cared for so well.

Support us
We welcome support from anyone who wants to align with us. Whether you wish to join us in weekly Monday meditation or our Tuesday or Thursday evening yoga classes, help us in the gardens, work with us on a working bee or support us by staying at Strathean either on retreat or as a worker, please contact us.
If you feel called to make a donation to Strathean Retreat Centre, we would be very grateful. The account number for this is 03-1540-0062688-00. We are not currently registered as a charity so we are unable to provide receipts for tax purposes, however, it is our intention to register Strathean as a charity soon to ensure it will continue to be available for all for their inner work, as it is at present.
