Strathean Retreat Centre is located at 212 Old Hautere Road, Te Horo, Kapiti, just 50 minutes north of Wellington.
Coming from Wellington – travelling north on SH1
1. Travel north on SH1 then leave at the Otaki exit.
2. Turn right onto Old Otaki Gorge Road and continue for about 2 km.
3. Turn right onto Old Hautere Road at the signpost for Strathean.
4. Turn left into our driveway just less than 1km down this road at number 212.
Coming from Otaki – travelling south on SH1
1. Take the Otaki exit and continue on the main road.
2. Turn left onto Old Otaki Gorge Road, go over the bridge and
continue for about 2 km.
3. Turn right onto Old Hautere Road at the signpost for Strathean.
4. Turn left into our driveway just less than 1km down this road at number 212.
Local highlights
If you would like to explore the local expansive beaches, you can walk on the lovely Kapiti Coast either from Te Horo or Otaki beaches (both about 10 minutes drive away).
Or if you’d like to experience beautiful native bush, it’s a 20 minute drive to Otaki Forks where you can walk to the Otaki River for swims or picnics or enjoy walks in the Tararua Forest Park. (The road is currently closed towards the Forks, you need to walk for the last 20 minutes to the Forks.)
There are also beautiful swimming spots in the river about 5 minutes drive from Strathean that we can guide you to, explore Potts Reserve.
Otaki and Te Horo have lots of wonderful cafes for you to explore if you have time, especially the Bus Stop cafe and Ruth Pretty’s cafe.
